How important is a fresh perspective? Does familiarity really breed contempt as the ancient Latin writer Apuleius once wrote, or is it more likely to make our world irrelevant to conscious thought? How then should we gain fresh perspective if not by meeting new people, or viewing art, reading books, exploring writing or the internet? It’s one thing to settle into a routine or hold an opinion. It’s another to interact with those people or forms of media that challenge our basic assumptions. Aren’t we better off for being actively engaged? We like the way Anais Nin put it…
